A man who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two children aged between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he ran.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
The prosecutor explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the police once more.
She explained the man then played the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
